Take a Musical Vacation!

While we can’t take a real vacation this spring break, we can still travel the world musically!

Grade K-3

Try out this site to explore instruments from all over the world. Which three countries did you visit?

With an adult’s help, try finding a new country to explore! To do this, first pick a country, and do some research! What are some famous instruments that come from that country?

See if you can find a video of a pro playing the instrument you discovered!

Keep going!: Using only stuff around the house, do you think you could create a version of your instrument? If not, keep researching and see if you can find an instrument you could build! It’s OK if it isn’t perfect!

As always, don’t forget: the instrument we all have is our voice! If you can’t build an instrument, you can try learning to sing a song coming from the country you chose.

Grade 3-6

Plan a trip around the world! Choose 3-4 different countries to visit, and try planning a route using Google Maps (don’t forget to plan a return to Manitoba!). Then see if you can find recordings of traditional music from each country and make a playlist! Listen to a recording, then “fly” away to your next country! Let me know; which countries did you visit? Which ones were your favourite? Did your hear something familiar? Something new? Share your route with me!

Keep going!: Pick a single stop on your visit and do some more exploring! Try learning the words to a song you listened to, or try recreating it on an instrument you have at home! After hearing multiple songs from the same country, do you notice any similarities? Similar instruments used? Similar musical style? Tell me about it!
